[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The National Fire Safety Officials Labor Union (Chairman Hong Suntak) announced on the 16th at 7 p.m. during a meeting held at the Secretary's Office of the Governor of Gangwon Province that they demanded improvements in the treatment of fire officials in the Gangwon region.
At the meeting, Hong Suntak, Chairman of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Firefighters' Union, said, "It is very meaningful to have a meeting again soon after the meeting with the Governor of Gangwon Province on June 28. Many issues remain to be resolved, such as the replenishment of insufficient firefighting personnel and the establishment of the time-off system, which Governor Kim Jin-tae promised at the first meeting. Active support at the Gangwon Province level is absolutely necessary."
Park Byung-joo, Secretary to the Governor of Gangwon Province, said, "There was significant flood damage in the Gangwon region due to the recent heavy rains. We express our gratitude to the firefighters who did their best to protect the safety, lives, and property of the residents of Gangwon Province. Governor Kim Jin-tae is also continuously reviewing issues such as the shortage of firefighting personnel and the replacement of outdated equipment, which were discussed with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Firefighters' Union," adding, "We plan to continue holding regular meetings with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Firefighters' Union."
