60-Year-Old Man Arrested for Committing Theft Across Apartments Nationwide

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Yeosu Police Station in Jeollanam-do announced on the 18th that they have arrested a man in his 60s, A (60), on charges of habitual theft for committing thefts at apartments nationwide.

A is accused of secretly entering an apartment in Gukdong, Yeosu-si at 9:47 a.m. on the 6th of last month and stealing precious metals, among other items, totaling about 25 million won over seven incidents until the 8th.

According to the police investigation, A scouted apartments with inadequate security facilities in Jeollanam-do and Gyeongnam areas in advance, pressed doorbells to check for signs of presence, and if there was no response, forcibly opened the front door with tools to commit the crimes.

It was also revealed that he moved by motorcycle and on foot and frequently changed clothes to evade police investigation.

As similar theft cases continued, the police regarded them as the work of the same perpetrator and, based on the thief’s appearance confirmed through closed-circuit television (CCTV), arrested A after a stakeout investigation.

A stated that he committed the crimes to cover living expenses.

The police are investigating A’s other possible crimes.
