Prosecutor General Nominee Lee Won-seok: "Listen to the People's Voices and Thoroughly Protect Fundamental Rights"... [Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] Lee Won-seok, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office (age 53, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 27), who was nominated on the 18th by President Yoon Seok-yeol as the next Prosecutor General candidate, stated, "From now on, I will listen to the voices of the people more humbly and unite the strength of all members of the prosecution to devote all efforts to protecting fundamental rights."


On the afternoon of the same day, immediately after President Yoon's nomination, Lee met with reporters in front of the first-floor entrance of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office building in Seocho-dong, Seoul. He said, "I am a person who is greatly lacking for the important position of Prosecutor General. And there is no secret or shortcut in the work of the prosecution," adding, "Therefore, from now on, I will listen to the voices of the people more humbly and unite the strength of all members of the prosecution to devote all efforts to protecting the fundamental rights of the people," expressing his thoughts on the nomination.


When asked what he thought was the reason for his nomination, he replied, "I believe the reason for the existence of the prosecution is to protect the fundamental rights such as the safety of the people's lives and bodies and their property," and added, "I think it is with the intention to thoroughly protect the fundamental rights of the people and lead the prosecution fairly."
