[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will provide disaster relief funds of 2 million KRW to households affected by house flooding and support wallpapering and flooring installation.
Suwon City announced that 193 households in the Suwon area suffered house flooding damage due to heavy rain in the central region from the 8th to the 11th, and as of the 18th, about 150 households have applied for disaster relief funds.
The city added that the district office’s Architecture Department will promptly visit the homes of the applicants to inspect the damage and will sequentially provide disaster relief funds to households that meet the payment criteria.
Households affected by flooding must apply for disaster relief funds at their local administrative welfare center.
The maximum disaster relief fund that local governments can provide to households affected by house flooding is 2 million KRW per household.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has set the upper limit for payments to flooded households at 2 million KRW per household in the "Regulations on Standards for Burden of Social Disaster Relief and Recovery Costs."
Small business owners who suffered flooding damage to their stores will also receive 2 million KRW per store from the disaster relief fund. Currently, about 30 stores have applied.
The city plans to support wallpapering and flooring installation for flooded households in cooperation with home repair volunteer groups.
The city will provide customized support by classifying the 193 households into grades A, B, and C according to the extent of damage. Grade A households are those severely flooded where appliances and furniture cannot be reused; Grade B households can partially use appliances and furniture; Grade C households have minor flooding damage and can resume daily life after water removal.
For the 46 Grade A households, appliances and supplies will be provided, and living expenses will be distributed to the 147 Grade B and C households.
