[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] LS Electric is establishing a 'carbon-neutral' park based on microgrid technology in Uiwang City to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
On the 18th, LS Electric signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Uiwang City Hall with Uiwang City, the office of National Assembly member Lee So-young (Uiwang·Gwacheon), Korea Electric Power Corporation Gyeonggi Headquarters, and Korea Energy Agency to create a carbon-neutral park within Baegun Lake Park in Uiwang City. This project aims to build various distributed energy infrastructures on the site of Baegun Lake Park in Hakui-dong, Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province, to reduce carbon emissions generated in the park and achieve carbon neutrality.
The carbon-neutral park will include ▲a parking lot solar power system, ▲electric vehicle charging facilities (fast and slow), ▲an energy storage system (ESS). These are intended to provide convenience to citizens while securing operating costs through electricity sales revenue. Along with energy self-sufficiency, it is also expected to supply electricity (emergency power) in case of power outages in nearby areas.
LS Electric will invest in creating the carbon-neutral park and build a microgrid capable of self-sufficient electric energy. It will also share operational data obtained during the project with partner organizations. Uiwang City Hall will provide the site for the carbon-neutral park and handle permits such as power grid connection and road usage. The office of Assembly member Lee will support the establishment of systems and policies related to distributed energy and microgrids. KEPCO Gyeonggi Headquarters will review power grid connection technology and provide technical support for power facility installation and operation. The Korea Energy Agency will secure distributed energy operation data, demonstrate new systems, and prepare improvement plans.
An LS Electric official stated, “Decarbonization and climate change response are irreversible trends of the era,” adding, “The development and spread of carbon-neutral technologies to reduce greenhouse gases is a challenge for all countries worldwide.” They continued, “We hope to successfully establish the park to maximize citizen convenience and use related data as an opportunity to build and expand better carbon-neutral infrastructure.”
