President Yoon Emphasizes "Fair Opportunities" for Developmental Disabilities Issues and Local Concerns

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized "fair opportunities" on the 18th regarding issues of people with developmental disabilities and regional matters.

On the morning of the same day, President Yoon met with reporters on his way to the Yongsan Presidential Office and stated, "This afternoon, I have a schedule to visit people with developmental disabilities, those who assist them, and their parents to observe the field and see if there are any aspects that should be reflected in national policies for them."

He continued, "There are artworks by people with developmental disabilities displayed in my office and in the lobby on the first floor of the Presidential Office building. While some have achieved outstanding accomplishments in the arts, overall, they face significant difficulties in social activities," adding, "Our government's policy philosophy is to actively seek out those who find it difficult to raise a united voice (people with developmental disabilities) and help them receive fair opportunities."

When asked, "There are criticisms that questions or achievements related to regional issues were missing from the press conference. Are there plans to discover regional issues or short-term goals or achievements?" he replied, "I have repeatedly said that the issue of balanced regional development is a matter of fairness in opportunities."

He added, "Yesterday's announcement was not a comprehensive one covering welfare and regional balance," and "It focused on what key changes have occurred since the government changed."

He further stated, "(However) regarding regional issues yesterday, I mentioned plans to promote a NASA-model project in Daejeon, Gyeongnam, and Jeonnam for the strategic development of the aerospace industry," and "Also, from the perspective that everyone in the Republic of Korea should enjoy fair opportunities regardless of where they live, we have already mentioned plans to expand regional financial independence and ensure fair access rights to transportation infrastructure as the basis for balanced development. Regarding the press conference on the 100th day of his inauguration held the previous day (17th), President Yoon explained, "The purpose of the conference was to carefully listen to and uphold the people's voices."
