[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] An event hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and jointly organized by the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP), the AI Graduate School Council, AI Innovation Hub, and LG was held to share the operational achievements of 14 domestic artificial intelligence (AI) graduate schools and discuss future development directions.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 18th that it will hold the '2022 AI Graduate School Symposium,' a two-day AI festival in the Republic of Korea, from the 18th to the 19th. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the event will be held with a minimal number of attendees and streamed live online simultaneously on the official Naver TV and YouTube channels of the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation. The keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Honglak Lee of the University of Michigan, a leading scholar in the AI field, under the theme "Learning Methods for AI Agents Performing Complex Tasks as Assistants to Humans."
An awards ceremony for the winning teams of the '2022 AI Graduate School Challenge,' held for the first time this year, will also take place. On this day, the Minister of Science and ICT Award was given to the CVML team from Chung-Ang University, the LG AI Research Director Award to two teams including the AI LAB team from Chung-Ang University, the IITP Director Award to two teams including the AMLL team from Sungkyunkwan University, and the group award to the AI Department of Chung-Ang University.
Cases of industry-academia cooperation between AI graduate schools and companies will also be presented. LG AI Research will introduce research cooperation cases on Expert AI based on multimodal super-large AI, Naver will present innovative industry-academia cooperation in the era of ultra-large-scale AI, and KT will showcase industry-academia cooperation cases through the AI One Team.
During the two days of the symposium, AI graduate schools and leading domestic AI companies will gather in one place. Along with research and educational achievements of AI graduate schools and graduate school admission briefings, information related to employment and recruitment from 14 companies will also be provided.
Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho said, “AI graduate schools have built domestic and international AI research and education networks in a short period, responded swiftly to industry demands, and continued innovative cooperation, gaining global recognition for their technological capabilities and research achievements. I hope that academia and industry will share and disseminate research experiences and achievements through this symposium, strengthening the bonds and industry-academia cooperation among AI graduate schools, which are the cradle of global digital talent.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and ICT has been operating AI graduate school programs since 2019 and currently runs a total of 19 institutions, including AI graduate schools, convergence research centers, and convergence innovation graduate schools.
