[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] In New Zealand, parts of a corpse were discovered inside a suitcase sold at an auction, prompting local police to launch an investigation.
According to local media on the 16th (local time), a family living in Manurewa, a southern area of Auckland, purchased items such as toys and suitcases at a warehouse auction on the 11th, where unclaimed goods were sold. However, parts of a corpse were found inside one of the suitcases. The family immediately reported the discovery to the police.
The police believe that the family who won the bid for the suitcase is unlikely to be involved in the crime. Neighbors said that a strong foul odor was present from the moment the trailer carrying the auction items arrived. One neighbor said, "As soon as I smelled it, I knew it was a corpse."
The remains found in the suitcase are believed to belong to multiple individuals, not just one. The number and identities of the victims have not yet been determined, and the police are awaiting the results of the autopsy.
The police are investigating whether a murder case is involved in this incident and stated, "Confirming the identity of the deceased is a priority to clarify all circumstances leading to the discovery of the body." They added, "It is highly likely that the person involved in the murder investigation has already fled overseas."
