[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is accepting nominations for the ‘27th Gwangjin Citizen Award’ until the 26th, targeting individuals and organizations who contribute to the development of the local community and serve as role models.
Started in 1995, the Gwangjin Citizen Award was established to actively discover citizens and organizations contributing to the community, express gratitude, and set them as examples for other citizens.
The awards are selected in three categories: ▲Economic and Community Development ▲Volunteering and Donation ▲Filial Piety.
In the Economic and Community Development category, one individual and one organization with special achievements in revitalizing the local economy or community development are selected. In the Volunteering and Donation category, one individual and one organization that serve as role models through volunteering and donation activities such as monetary, goods, or talent donations are selected. The Filial Piety category awards one individual who respects parents and elders by practicing filial piety or maintains a harmonious family of four generations.
Nominees must have outstanding achievements in the respective award category and must have resided in Gwangjin-gu for more than three years as of the award date, or be an organization located in the district.
Candidates can be recommended by the head of the neighborhood office, department heads, related institutions, or organization leaders, or by the signatures of two or more Gwangjin-gu residents and then recommended by the neighborhood office chief of the candidate’s residence.
Recommendation forms and achievement reports should be submitted by mail, visit, or email to the Autonomous Administration Division of Gwangjin-gu Office by the 26th of this month, or submitted to the neighborhood community center or related departments.
After review by the Achievement Review Committee and verification of facts, the award ceremony will be held at the opening ceremony of Gwangnaru Eoulmadang on September 24th. The names of the awardees will be permanently preserved on a plaque at the Gwangjin Culture and Arts Center.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “The 27th Gwangjin Citizen Award has discovered six organizations and 128 proud citizens so far. We ask for active interest and recommendations so that those who dedicate themselves to the community in unseen places can become role models for our citizens.”
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-sung) is seeking candidates for the 32nd Jung-gu Citizen Award, targeting individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to creating a bright and healthy social atmosphere and the development of the local community.
Nominees must have continuously resided (registered residents) or have a workplace (main workplace) in Jung-gu for more than three years as of the announcement date (August 3). However, those who have previously received the Seoul Citizen Award or Jung-gu Citizen Award for the same achievements are excluded.
The award categories are ▲Volunteer Award ▲Filial Piety Award ▲Honorable Parent Award ▲Brave Citizen Award ▲Model Youth Award ▲Culture, Arts and Sports Award ▲Regional Development Award, totaling seven categories.
The Volunteer Award is for citizens and organizations with outstanding contributions to serving the community or residents. The Filial Piety Award is for citizens and organizations who sincerely respect their parents and serve as role models for others.
The Honorable Parent Award is for exemplary parents who have devoted themselves to their children and family despite difficult circumstances. The Brave Citizen Award is for citizens and organizations who have risked their own safety to protect residents’ lives and property or have made special contributions to public peace and social order.
The Model Youth Award is given to youths with sound values and lifestyles who will lead society, and organizations that have made significant contributions to youth guidance.
The Culture, Arts and Sports Award is for individuals or organizations who have contributed to the promotion of local culture and arts, including literature, fine arts, music, performance, and sports. The Regional Development Award is for individuals or organizations who have contributed to solving local pending issues and the development of education, economy, medical care, welfare, environment, and safety within the region.
Recommenders include heads of related institutions and organizations for each category, district council members, school principals, or joint recommendations by ten or more residents over 20 years old.
The application period is until September 2. Applicants must submit ▲recommendation forms and achievement reports (available on the website, Dong government office, and neighborhood community center civil service desks) ▲supporting documents (activity photos, etc.) ▲one color photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm) to the Dong government office or neighborhood community centers by visit or mail.

Awardees will be selected after review by the Jung-gu Citizen Award Screening Committee, announced on the Jung-gu website, individually notified, and awarded in October.
Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Sung-myung) is recruiting 29 new resident companies (totaling 132 people) until September 16 at the ‘Gangnam Employment and Startup Hub Center,’ established to support startups and prospective entrepreneurs with high growth potential and nurture them into innovative small and medium enterprises.
The Gangnam Employment and Startup Hub Center is located on Yeoksam-ro’s ‘Entrepreneur Street,’ where startup and investment companies and institutions such as Maru180·360 and TIPS Town are concentrated. It underwent remodeling last year and is scheduled for completion at the end of this month. The residency period is from October 1 to March 31 of next year, with the possibility of staying up to two years through comprehensive evaluations every six months.
The center will offer resident companies affordable office space rental and various programs such as business mentoring and investor matching.
Applicants must be startup companies registered in Gangnam-gu, companies that can relocate their headquarters to Gangnam-gu within three months after moving in, or prospective entrepreneurs who can register a business. The corporate establishment date or business registration date must be within seven years as of the announcement date, and the number of residents must be eight or fewer.
