[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] POSCO Pohang Steelworks visited the Songdo-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Nam-gu, Pohang City on the 16th and delivered agricultural products directly harvested by the ‘Eco Farm Volunteer Group.’
The corn delivered that day holds special significance as it was cultivated for nearly 100 days after being sown by the Pohang Steelworks Eco Farm Volunteer Group in May.
Fertilizer made from siliceous slag generated in the steelmaking process, along with minerals matured from starfish, fish entrails, and snow crab shells, was used as liquid fertilizer. The starfish needed for fertilizer production was provided by the POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Group.
The harvested corn was delivered on the 13th to vulnerable groups and the Songdo Meal Service Center in Gyeonggimyeon and Songdo-dong, totaling 240 ears.
Pohang Steelworks has been continuously carrying out agricultural product sharing activities to improve the lives of vulnerable groups, such as delivering 200 boxes of potatoes to the Haedo-dong Administrative Welfare Center in July.
