[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, held a commemorative event to honor independence patriots and their families in Mapo-gu on the 77th anniversary of Liberation Day at 11 a.m. on the 17th at Catertle New Building Convention Hall A.


About 100 people, including independence patriots, their families, and invited guests, attended the event, which featured a pre-ceremony performance followed by a gift presentation ceremony to honor the independence patriots.


In his congratulatory speech, Park Gang-su expressed gratitude for the noble spirit of sacrifice of the independence patriots and promised to make further efforts to improve the treatment of independence patriots.

Oh Eun-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, visited Gain Elementary School, Nuwon Elementary School, and Sinbanghak Middle School in the district on the 16th along with Seoul city council members to listen to parents' opinions on school facilities and inspect the aging facilities on site.


He especially checked hygiene facilities such as squat toilets that need improvement, as well as summer ventilation facilities including windows and insect screens, directly inspecting their operational status and degree of aging.


Oh Eun-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Improving the educational environment for our children is an extremely important issue, so we will strive to move beyond a passive perspective and actively cooperate and support the City Council and the Office of Education to achieve more practical facility improvements.”

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) conducted an experiential activity on the 17th at the Mokdong Disaster Experience Center with the 18th term Yangcheon Dream Tree Newsletter Children Reporters.


The activity was held twice, in the morning and afternoon, with 53 children reporters participating. They experienced the Digital Safety Experience Center, virtual reality natural disaster simulations, and disaster escape activities firsthand to learn how to respond in disaster situations.


Based on this experience, the children reporters will write related articles for the “Dream Tree Reporter Goes” section in the autumn issue of the Dream Tree Newsletter.


Meanwhile, the district selected 65 children to serve as the 18th term Dream Tree Children Reporters for one year starting last April.

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) participated in a campaign to eradicate child violence on the 13th with children and adolescents in Seongbuk-gu to commemorate World Youth Day (August 12).


The 'END Violence' campaign is an awareness-raising initiative led by the UNICEF Korea Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to eradicate all violence against children and adolescents. It has been ongoing since July to foster social interest and consensus on messages to end child violence.


Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu participated in this campaign upon the nomination of National Assembly member Kim Young-bae of Seongbuk-gu.


Seongbuk-gu, the nation’s first UNICEF Child-Friendly City, received the second certification for the advanced stage of Child-Friendly City in May. Mayor Lee said, “We will strive to create a world where our children and adolescents can focus solely on playing, being healthy, and happy without any kind of violence.”


On this day, to commemorate World Youth Day on August 12, the district held various events led by children and adolescents, including a World Youth Day festival and awards for exemplary youth.


In particular, a plaque unveiling ceremony for the second certification of the advanced stage of the nation’s first Child-Friendly City was held, celebrating with members of the Children and Youth Council and Youth Participation Committee.


Mayor Lee Seung-ro appealed for community interest and participation so that children and adolescents can be respected as rights holders and live in a world free of violence, and nominated Lee Hak-su, Mayor of Jeongeup, Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, and Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu as the next participants in the campaign.
