Chairman Son Kyung-sik Meets US Ambassador to "Strengthen Bilateral Economic Cooperation"

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, met with Philip Goldberg, the new U.S. Ambassador to Korea, on the 17th to discuss ways to support companies from both countries.

Chairman Sohn said, "This year marks the 140th anniversary of Korea-U.S. diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (FTA). During this period, trade volume between the two countries increased by about 66%, from $101.8 billion to $169.1 billion, and Korean companies' investment in the U.S. has also grown." He added, "Based on the strong Korea-U.S. alliance, cooperation will be further strengthened in various fields such as digital transformation, climate change response, and advanced technology development."

Present at the meeting were Ambassador Goldberg, Sean Lindstone, Acting Economic Counselor, and Jay Bix, Commercial Counselor. Chairman Sohn stated, "KEF member companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK, Hyundai Motor, LG, Lotte, and CJ have made significant investments in the U.S." He continued, "We will create opportunities for communication with our businesspeople and cooperate with the U.S. Embassy in Korea to contribute to strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries."
