[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] A son who assaulted his father to death at a house in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, has been arrested.
The Uijeongbu Police Station announced on the 16th that they had arrested a man in his 60s, Mr. A, on charges of causing death by injury to a direct ascendant.
Mr. A is suspected of assaulting his father, Mr. B, in his 80s, at his home in Uijeongbu on the afternoon of the 6th, resulting in his death.
Mr. B, who was found collapsed and dead in a room, was discovered by another family member around 6 p.m. that day, who then reported it to the police.
The police, upon receiving the report, found signs of assault on Mr. B's body and requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the cause of death. They received an opinion stating that "there is a possibility of death due to assault."
Accordingly, the police placed Mr. A, who was in the house at the time of the incident, under suspicion and conducted an investigation. During the investigation, Mr. A denied the charges, claiming "my father fell and got injured," but eventually confessed to the crime after persistent questioning by the police.
It was determined that Mr. A, who had ongoing conflicts with Mr. B, committed the crime in a moment of anger while drinking together.
The police plan to transfer the case to the prosecution once the investigation is completed.
