The 'Warsaw Music Gardens Festival' is a cultural and artistic festival that has promoted mutual cultural exchange by inviting European Union countries such as France, Sweden, and Belgium since 2008. This year, for the first time, 'Korea' was selected as the guest of honor from non-European Union countries, officially inviting the musical "Marie Curie."
The Golden Watering Can Award, won by the musical "Marie Curie," is given to the best work selected by votes from local audiences and staff among all the works participating in the festival that year. Past winners include 'Swan Lake Ballet,' 'Opera Cinderella,' and 'Luciano Pavarotti Concert Documentary.'
A representative of the organizers stated, "Through the screening of the musical 'Marie Curie' performance and the gala concert, we were captivated by the talent and passion of the Korean creators and actors who created a performance based on a Polish scientist," adding, "It was the moment that delighted the audience the most during this festival."
The musical "Marie Curie" production company, Live Co., Ltd., said, "The official invitation of the musical 'Marie Curie' within the festival was a hot topic even among local Polish performance officials. Love calls are flooding in from local Polish officials and theaters," and added, "We have also received an invitation proposal to a festival in another region of Poland held in the summer of 2023 and are currently exploring it."
The musical "Marie Curie" is a Korean original musical based on the life of the great scientist 'Marie Curie.' The work portrays 'Marie Curie,' who overcame social prejudice as a female immigrant, endured hardships and adversity, and was the first person to win the Nobel Prize twice as both a scientist and a human being. It won five awards, including Grand Prize, Best Direction, Best Script, Best Music, and Best Producer, at the 5th Korean Musical Awards held in January 2021. It is scheduled to meet audiences domestically in the second half of 2023.
