Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the 13th. While expressing his position directly regarding the provisional injunction application related to the party's transition to an emergency response committee system, he became emotional and his eyes welled up. [Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the first hearing date for the injunction to suspend the effectiveness of the People Power Party's Emergency Response Committee, filed by former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok, is set for the 17th, Lee has expressed his intention to attend the hearing in person.
Late in the evening on the 16th, Lee posted on Facebook, stating, "I will attend the injunction hearing in person tomorrow (the 17th)."
He emphasized, "The principle is to stand at the front when advancing and stand at the back when retreating. Politics that hides behind aides is unacceptable," adding, "I am happy to be working with the most passionate and spirited legal experts."
The Seoul Southern District Court will hold a hearing at 3 p.m. on the same day regarding the injunction application filed by Lee against the People Power Party and Emergency Response Committee Chairman Joo Ho-young to suspend the committee's effectiveness.
The court's decision could come as early as that day, which means the Emergency Response Committee, officially launched the previous day, could end after just one day. Chairman Joo finalized the Emergency Response Committee's roster, consisting of nine members: himself, floor leader Kwon Seong-dong, policy committee chairman Seong Il-jong as ex officio members, and six appointed members.
In response, Lee criticized via Facebook, saying, "It is ironic that the acting party leader, who declared an emergency situation for the party after exposing internal text messages and receiving cherry thumbs-up, is being reaffirmed in a party meeting despite falling approval ratings."
