The Gyeongnam Office of Education is conducting a training course for a parent support group to prevent adolescent drinking and harmful drug use.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Office of Education will conduct a training program from the 16th to the 23rd to train a parent support group aimed at preventing youth drinking and harmful drug use.
The training, commissioned to the Smoking Cessation Education Research Institute at Inje University, will be attended by 34 parents of elementary, middle, and high school students, who will learn about ▲the current status of youth smoking, drinking, and drug misuse ▲youth brain development and causes of addiction ▲understanding youth psychology.
The parent support group training course is supported jointly by the Gyeongnam Pharmaceutical Association and the Gyeongnam Police Agency.
The provincial office of education stated that in response to the recent increase in youth drinking and harmful drug use, it is conducting systematic prevention education through the ‘7 Standard Guidelines for School Safety Education’ and supporting student healing activities to prevent harmful drug use.
This training will cover topics such as ▲Principles and mechanisms of addiction by Professor Kim Geonhyeong of Inje University Busan Paik Hospital ▲Current status of youth harmful drug crimes and correct knowledge about narcotics by Section Chief Kim Daegyu of the Gyeongnam Police Agency ▲Youth drinking status and prevention by Professor Jegal Jeong of Ewha Womans University ▲Youth developmental characteristics and parent-child communication methods by Director Kang Dulsun of Durisim Psychological Counseling Research Institute.
Parents who complete the training course will serve as assistant instructors for harmful drug prevention education conducted by the provincial office of education targeting students.
Ha Jeonghwa, Director of the Department of Physical Education, Arts, and Health, said, “We hope that by training the parent support group, families, schools, and communities will take an interest in preventing youth harmful drug use and enhance the quality of prevention education.”
