August 27: 'Goyang Special City Bicycle Culture Festival: Practicing Carbon Neutrality' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as the host city for the international cycling race "TOUR DE DMZ 2022," officially recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
The event is jointly hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Incheon City, Gyeonggi Province, and Gangwon Province, and organized by the Korea Cycling Federation. It will be held over five days starting from the 26th.
About 500 cyclists, including approximately 250 domestic and international athletes and 250 participants in the Masters category, will ride bicycles across the Korean Peninsula along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), sharing the pain of division and wishing for peace.
To commemorate the event, the "Goyang Special City Bicycle Culture Festival: Practicing Carbon Neutrality" will be held on the 27th, the day after the opening ceremony.
The festival will feature a bicycle parade, performances by cycling clubs, a talk concert, and a mini competition of the urban cycling race "King of Track," all centered around expanding bicycle culture and practicing carbon neutrality.
A city official stated, "We hope many citizens will participate in the 'TOUR DE DMZ,' where cycling enthusiasts from around the world ride through the only divided country in the world, South Korea’s DMZ, to wish for peace. We also hope this event will contribute to the activation of bicycle culture and carbon neutrality, and eventually become an annual event in Goyang City."
