[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is set to expand electric vehicle (EV) exclusive parking zones and charging stations.
On the 16th, the city announced the promulgation of a revision to the "Daejeon City Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Promotion Ordinance," which broadens the mandatory installation targets for EV charging facilities.
The revision, which was promulgated, expands the installation targets for charging facilities and exclusive parking zones in public buildings or public-use facilities from the previous threshold of 100 parking spaces to 50 or more, and for apartments from 500 households to 100 or more.
Accordingly, exclusive parking zones must be installed at 5% or more of the total parking spaces in new and existing public facilities, and at 2% or more in existing facilities.
Additionally, the number of charging facilities to be installed must be at least 5% of the total parking spaces in new facilities and at least 2% in existing facilities.
In particular, through the revision, for rapid charging facilities, public buildings or public-use facilities installing five or more charging stations must include at least one rapid charger, and public parking lots must have at least 50% of their chargers as rapid charging facilities.
However, under the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Promotion of Environmentally Friendly Vehicles, grace periods are granted for existing facilities by facility type: one year for public institutions, two years for public-use facilities, and three years for multi-family housing.
Im Yang-hyeok, head of the Fine Dust Response Division of the city, said, "We expect the ordinance revision to serve as an opportunity to enhance user convenience through the expansion of EV charging facilities."
