Rumored Candidates for Emergency Committee Chair: Jeong Uncheon, Eom Taeyoung, Jeon Juhye
First Emergency Committee Meeting on 18th
Outcome Depends on Injunction Application Results
[Asia Economy reporters Hyunju Lee and Hyunji Kwon] Joo Ho-young, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, will finalize the appointment of committee members on the 16th and officially launch the Emergency Response Committee. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for the 18th, but the situation remains fluid depending on the hearing results of the injunction request to suspend the effectiveness of former representative Lee Jun-seok, who recently shook the party with a press conference.
On his way to work that day, Chairman Joo told reporters, "The Standing National Committee to approve the Emergency Response Committee members was convened this afternoon (the 16th)," adding, "I requested the floor leader to convene even a virtual general meeting so that the final appointment results could be reported to the lawmakers in advance."
Among the likely Emergency Response Committee members are re-elected lawmaker Jung Woon-cheon and first-term lawmakers Eom Tae-young (Chungbuk Jecheon-Danyang) and Jeon Ju-hye (proportional representation). Park Jeong-ha (Gangwon Wonju) is expected to be appointed as spokesperson, while external committee members may include Sejong City Councilor Lee So-hee, former lawmaker Jung Yang-seok, and former youth aide Kang Ho-seung.
Judging from the appointments, this Emergency Response Committee places more emphasis on management than innovation. The committee members mentioned are evaluated as stable figures without clear factional ties. Chairman Joo explained, "We composed the committee with people who can stabilize the party early and restore trust," adding, "We considered representation sufficiently, but it was difficult to represent many areas with just six members."
However, opposition within the party is growing against Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong’s participation as an ex officio committee member, so a different conclusion may emerge at the party meeting. Lawmaker Jung Woo-taek said in a radio interview that day, "I think it might be better if Floor Leader Kwon makes a decision to become a greater politician."

Former representative Lee Jun-seok continued his radio interviews on the same day, launching attacks against President Yoon Seok-yeol and ‘Yoon’s core associates (Yunhaekgwan).’ Regarding the denial by the presidential office of a private meeting held in June, he claimed it was a "plan to make Lee Jun-seok a liar." He stated, "After reports about the meeting came out, the presidential office’s response was ‘We did not have dinner,’ so I checked," adding, "I said, ‘If the presidential office denies the meeting, I will deny it too; if they confirm, I will confirm to match.’" He continued, "Then they said the final position was that ‘We never had dinner,’ but the next day they said ‘We never met,’" and argued, "The final conclusion was a plan to make Lee Jun-seok a liar."
Regarding the possibility of a meeting with Chairman Joo, the former representative expressed a negative stance, saying, "I am deliberately not meeting." He said, "I don’t meet because I think they will make strange proposals." The injunction request submitted by the former representative to the Seoul Southern District Court will be heard tomorrow. The results may come out on the same day, and repercussions are expected accordingly.
