[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Samsung Electronics is launching a premium gaming monitor priced in the 3 million KRW range. It features a large 55-inch screen with a 165Hz high refresh rate. Samsung Electronics plans to target the global market by introducing this product starting in the UK.
Samsung Electronics unveiled the next-generation gaming screen, the 'Odyssey Ark,' on the 16th. The Odyssey Ark (G97NB) boasts a 55-inch display with a 1000R curvature. It provides an immersive experience as if sitting inside a spaceship, enhancing gaming and entertainment experiences. It supports 4K resolution, a 165Hz high refresh rate, and a fast response time of 1ms (0.001 seconds) based on GTG standards. GTG (Grey to Grey) is a response time measurement standard that measures the time taken to transition from light gray to dark gray.
The Odyssey Ark uses Quantum Mini LED backlighting, first introduced in the previous Odyssey Neo G9 model, to deliver clear image quality. It also features Contrast Mapping technology that controls brightness and contrast using an AI neural network and 14-bit (16,384 levels) precision. With a fixed contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 and HDR10+, it produces vivid and lifelike graphics. It applies a matte display verified as Glare Free by UL, a global safety certification company, minimizing light reflection.
The Odyssey Ark supports a vertical Cockpit Mode and an interface function that allows users to adjust the screen size and ratio as desired. Additionally, it features an ergonomic design including ▲HAS (height adjustment) ▲Tilt (up/down angle adjustment) ▲Pivot (landscape/portrait rotation). The monitor supports Multi View, which allows splitting the screen into up to 4 sections (3 in vertical mode) for simultaneous use, reflecting recent trends of multitasking such as gaming and live streaming simultaneously.
It also includes Samsung Gaming Hub, a streaming game platform integration service, enabling users to easily enjoy cloud gaming. The Flex Move Screen function allows users to freely select the size, ratio, and position of the game screen. Screen settings range from 27 inches to 55 inches and aspect ratios from 16:9 to 21:9 and 32:9. Furthermore, it supports ▲4 HDMI 2.1 ports ▲One Connect Box that organizes peripheral connection cables in one place ▲a rotatable Wall Mount Bracket for convenience.
The Odyssey Ark enhances sound spatiality by applying Dolby Atmos based on a 60W 2.2.2 channel system and Sound Dome Tech. Four main speakers installed on the top, bottom, left, and right, along with two centrally located woofers, provide deep sound. It can accurately and cleanly reproduce ultra-low frequencies down to 45Hz.
Various dedicated UX features linked to the game screen are also applied. These include Active Ambient, which automatically recognizes the colors of the game screen and creates an atmosphere matching the pattern colors on blank screens, and Eclipse Lighting, which synchronizes side and rear lighting.
The dedicated controller provided with the monitor, the Ark Dial, helps intuitively control various functions. It supports easy switching of screen layouts and settings. It also allows users to quickly and easily operate Multi View and the game bar.
The Odyssey Ark’s retail price is 3.4 million KRW in Korea. Samsung Electronics plans to conduct pre-sales of the Odyssey Ark on Samsung.com starting from the 24th, followed by sales at Samsung Digital Plaza stores nationwide from September 7.
