To Meet Growing Electric Vehicle Charging Demand, 18 Chargers to Be Installed at 7 Public Parking Lots with High Accessibility by the End of This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) will install 18 additional electric vehicle charging stations in public parking lots within the district by the end of this year.
Currently, Gangdong-gu operates 9 fast charging stations across 5 public parking lots, but as the adoption of electric vehicles increases, the demand for charging has also risen significantly, creating a need for additional charging facilities.
In response to the growing demand, the district has decided to expand the number of charging stations by adding 18 more at easily accessible public parking lots.
The public parking lots targeted for additional installation are ▲Myeongil-dong Public Parking Lot ▲Cheonho 1-dong Public Parking Lot ▲Cheonho 3-dong Public Parking Lot ▲Cheonho 3-dong 2nd Public Parking Lot ▲Anmal Public Parking Lot ▲Amsa 1-dong Public Parking Lot ▲Gangil-dong Public Parking Lot, totaling seven locations.
Gangdong-gu operates a system that exempts parking fees for one hour when residents charge their electric vehicles at public parking lots, and offers a 50% discount on parking fees beyond the first hour to enhance convenience for electric vehicle users.
Once the installation of the charging stations is complete, a total of 27 charging stations will be available across 8 public parking lots in Gangdong-gu, significantly increasing the number of residents, freight drivers, and individual taxi drivers who can benefit from this service.
Mayor Lee Soo-hee of Gangdong-gu stated, “We plan to start surveying installation sites for electric vehicle charging stations this month and complete the installations by the end of the year. We will continue to expand electric vehicle charging facilities, focusing on public parking lots.”
Detailed information on the currently operating electric vehicle charging stations, including charging speed, charger type, operational status, and charging fees, can be checked in real-time on the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Website, which provides comprehensive eco-friendly vehicle charging information.
