[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is urgently injecting 10 billion KRW in disaster relief funds to support flood damage in 31 cities and counties within the province.
On the 15th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will allocate a total of 10 billion KRW from the provincial disaster management fund for emergency recovery across all 31 cities and counties, including providing 300 million KRW each to three cities/counties with relatively severe flood damage such as Yangpyeong.
Accordingly, by the 16th of this month, the province will provide 300 million KRW each to three cities/counties including Yangpyeong, Yeoju, and Gwangju based on the scale of damage, 100 million KRW each to six cities/counties including Hwaseong, Yongin, Seongnam, Hanam, Uiwang, and Yeoncheon, and 50 million KRW each to 22 other cities/counties for emergency recovery and proactive preparedness.
The province plans to first support 2.6 billion KRW to the 31 cities and counties, then assess the emergency recovery costs for each city/county and provide an additional 7.4 billion KRW.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The most important thing is for those affected by this heavy rain to quickly restore their daily lives," and added, "We will support the provincial disaster management fund for rapid emergency recovery, so we ask the cities and counties to mobilize all available resources to restore the damage as quickly as possible."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province recorded an average cumulative rainfall of 419.2mm from midnight on the 8th to 7 a.m. on the 15th. The area with the heaviest rainfall was Yangpyeong, which received 691.0mm during this period, followed by Yeoju with 685.5mm and Gwangju with 674.5mm. Due to the heavy rain during this period, Gyeonggi Province suffered six casualties, including four deaths and two missing persons. Additionally, 445 public facilities such as rivers and roads were damaged or washed away.
