Why Has School Become a Place Students Don’t Want to Go?


[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) will hold an online lecture series titled "Omniscient Youth Perspective ? ZOOM, Closer Knowledge" from the 22nd of this month to the 2nd of next month, every weekday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.


The lectures, aimed at fostering young people's understanding of social and cultural phenomena and critical thinking, will be conducted over 10 sessions via the online video conferencing program ZOOM.


In the first week, the following lectures will be held consecutively: ▲ Fairness in Korean society through numbers (Jeong Han-ul) ▲ Why has school become an unpleasant place? (Jeong Je-young) ▲ A new everyday language that discriminates against no one (Shin Ji-young) ▲ Intergenerational empathy communication (Lee Min-young) ▲ Revisiting 21st-century Korean society through Thomas More's 16th-century 'Utopia' (Kim Seon-ah).


In the second week, the lectures will continue with: ▲ The reality of immigrants in Korean society and solidarity in civil society (Kim Se-jin) ▲ Great women artists (Kang Eun-joo) ▲ Understanding contemporary art reveals the trends of the era (Lee Eun-hwa) ▲ From career-interrupted woman to scientist: a life of challenge and dreams (Park Eun-jung) ▲ Veganism, why is it a trend? (Min Geum-chae).


Anyone can apply for free to attend each lecture, with a limit of 100 participants per session, by referring to the Seodaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Portal announcements. Real-time sign language interpretation will also be provided.


Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "This will be an opportunity for young people to understand the problems of the community society as a whole, enhance their rational decision-making abilities, and strengthen their capacity for social participation as proactive citizens."
