[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] It is the 'new victory' of Canadian-Korean Shin Yong-gu (31).
On the 14th, Shin Yong-gu won the KPGA Korean Tour Woosung Construction Open (total prize money 700 million KRW) held at South Links Yeongam Kyle Phillips Course (par 72, 7,557 yards) in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, after a fierce battle that went to the second playoff.
He reached the top for the first time in his 4th year since debuting on the KPGA Korean Tour. The winner's prize money is 140 million KRW.
On the final day, Shin Yong-gu made 5 birdies and 2 bogeys, finishing tied for first place (13-under 275) with Kang Kyung-nam (39), who also shot 5 under par, leading to a playoff.
In the first playoff held on the 18th hole (par 4), Kang Kyung-nam saved par first, and Shin Yong-gu missed a 3-meter birdie putt, extending the match to a second playoff.
In the end, Shin Yong-gu smiled. Although his tee shot curved to the left, it landed on the cart path and he was granted relief, calmly making a birdie. Meanwhile, Kang Kyung-nam missed his birdie putt, losing his chance for his 12th career win.
Lee Dong-min (37) and Yoon Sung-ho (26), who were co-leaders the previous day, both lost 4 strokes and dropped to a tie for 13th place (9-under 279).
Last year's winner Park Sang-hyun (39) finished the tournament tied for 18th place (8-under 280) after shooting 1 under par. 'Order of Merit leader' Kim Min-gyu (21) struggled with 1 over par, finishing tied for 24th place (7-under 281).
