[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] In the Conservative Party leadership race to select the successor to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is leading former Chancellor Rishi Sunak by a 22 percentage point margin, according to a poll.

On the 13th (local time), according to the daily newspaper The Guardian and others, a poll conducted by UK polling firm Opinium among 570 Conservative MPs showed that Secretary Truss had 61% support, while former Chancellor Sunak had 39%.

The Conservative Party leadership race officially began on the 1st. Ballots for the party leadership election have been mailed to UK Conservative Party members since the 1st, and must be submitted by September 2nd. Voting can be done by mail or online. The winner will be announced on September 5th.

According to Opinium, 29% of the 570 respondents said they had already voted, and 47% said they had already decided who to vote for. Only 19% had not yet decided who to vote for, indicating potential for change.

The Guardian reported, "While Secretary Truss maintains her lead, the gap has narrowed somewhat compared to other recent polls," adding, "This suggests that former Chancellor Sunak has recently been closing the gap."
