Minister Sang-min Lee "Prevention of Human Casualties is Important... Thorough Quarantine at Shelters"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) announced that President Yoon Seok-yeol instructed preemptive measures on the 13th to prepare for additional heavy rainfall.
According to the CDSCH, at 11 a.m. that day, President Yoon said, "Thoroughly prepare in advance to prevent additional damage in areas where it has already rained, and take preemptive measures such as evacuating residents in dangerous areas to ensure thorough preparedness and response."
Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and head of the CDSCH, held a meeting in the afternoon at the Government Seoul Office to review the heavy rainfall response situation and reiterated President Yoon's instructions.
Minister Lee said, "From today until tomorrow, heavy rain is expected once again, mainly in the metropolitan area and central regions," adding, "As always emphasized, the most important thing is to prevent casualties."
He also urged thorough quarantine measures at shelters for disaster victims.
Minister Lee said, "There have been cases of COVID-19 infections at shelters, and since these are crowded facilities, they are vulnerable to the spread," adding, "Please conduct regular disinfection and ventilation to minimize transmission."
According to the CDSCH, three confirmed cases were identified among citizens who evacuated from their homes due to the heavy rain at temporary shelters in Dongjak-gu, Yangcheon-gu, and Gangnam-gu in Seoul the previous day.
