[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam International Education Institute announced on the 12th that it operated the 'Active Global Citizen Volunteer Camp' for 68 students from 12 high schools in Jeonnam and 60 students from 6 schools in Vietnam and Indonesia.
In this event, Jeonnam students participated in person, while overseas students who had difficulty participating directly due to the COVID-19 situation joined remotely.
Students from the three countries have been examining related issues in their own countries and exchange countries on the themes of environment, health, and education since June. They also formed student NGOs by group, established volunteer project plans to solve problems, and have been implementing them simultaneously in the three countries.
Through this camp, participating students shared examples of group volunteer activities and exchanged ideas to solve problems arising during the implementation process.
One student who participated in the event said, “Indonesia was very unfamiliar at first, but through participating in the volunteer project and meeting peers, I learned a lot about Indonesia,” adding, “The most rewarding and memorable experience was making reusable sanitary pads to donate to Nepal’s Jolsingpo and Jeonnam Human School students together with my friends.”
Director Choi Kyung-hwa said, “Through exchanges with Asian students and the execution of volunteer projects, I hope Jeonnam students will enhance their multicultural sensitivity and develop a sense of meaning and responsibility for communal life,” and added, “I hope they grow into active global citizens who act to solve various global issues such as the environment, poverty, and peace through solidarity and cooperation based on humanity.”
