People Power Party: "China's 3 No's and 1 Limit on THAAD Claim Violates Security Sovereignty... Not a Matter for Interference"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 12th, members of the People Power Party belonging to the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly rebutted China's claim of 'THAAD 3不 1限 (limited operation of THAAD)' as an 'infringement on security sovereignty.'

Han Ki-ho, a member of the People Power Party, stated in a press conference held as the representative of the National Defense Committee, "The Chinese government claims that the Korean government formally pledged the 3불 1한 regarding the THAAD issue externally five years ago," adding, "China's mention of restrictions on THAAD operation is a clear interference in internal affairs and an act of infringing on security sovereignty."

Han said, "The THAAD 3불 policy, which was conceded to China during the Moon Jae-in administration, is a security shackle that abandons our security sovereignty and endangers the existence of the nation," and added, "The formal deployment and normalization of THAAD is our defensive measure to respond to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, and it is not a matter for China to interfere with."

He emphasized, "While North Korea's military provocations continue, the proper order is for China, claiming to genuinely desire peace on the Korean Peninsula, to persuade North Korea to abandon nuclear and missile development," and "THAAD is an indispensable element to deter North Korean provocations based on the ROK-US alliance."

He also called for the stance of government officials who responded to China's 3불 1한 demands during the Moon Jae-in administration. Han stated, "The submissive 3불 1한 policy toward China must be immediately abolished," and "We must break free from being cautious of China regarding THAAD."

Kim Ki-hyun, a member of the National Defense Committee, also posted on Facebook on the same day, criticizing, "The Moon administration succumbed to China's hegemonism, which spewed the absurd statement that 'the Korean Peninsula is part of China,'" and "It is nothing but treason that voluntarily abandoned the Republic of Korea's military security sovereignty."

Members of the People Power Party's National Defense Committee urged, "The Yoon Suk-yeol administration should clearly rebut China and respond confidently so that THAAD, introduced for defensive purposes against enemy threats, can operate normally."
