[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, will provide the COVID-19 'Universal Daily Recovery Support Fund' for all citizens to revitalize the local economy and stabilize livelihoods starting from the 29th.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong and Chairman Kim Young-gyu jointly announced this on the afternoon of the 11th in the city council's small conference room after the 222nd Yeosu City Council extraordinary session ended.
The payment amount is 300,000 KRW per Yeosu citizen, totaling about 2.8 million people and approximately 84.2 billion KRW.
As of 0:00 on July 1, the start date of the 8th elected term, citizens registered in Yeosu and foreign residents with permanent residency or marriage immigrant status are eligible for the payment.
The support fund will be provided as Yeosu Love Gift Certificates or prepaid cards, which can be used within Yeosu City to stimulate the local economy.
The payment period is from August 29 to September 23, and citizens can receive the payment immediately by visiting their local town office or community service center.
However, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and congestion, a 5-day rotation system based on the last digit of the birth year will be implemented during the first five days.
Mayor Jeong said in the announcement, "The universal daily recovery support fund, a pledge of the 8th elected term, will be provided before the Chuseok holiday. I thank the twenty-six council members who actively cooperated," adding, "The support fund will serve as a catalyst to alleviate citizens' difficulties and invigorate the local economy."
He continued, "I ask for prompt use so that it benefits small business owners and traditional market merchants, contributing to the local economy. As COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing again, please also adhere strictly to quarantine rules."
Finally, he jointly pledged, "Going forward, the city and city council will prioritize citizens' safety, happiness, and economic vitality, and will do their best without any negligence."
