Gwanak-gu, Dongjak-gu, Guro-gu, and Others Sweat Hard on Flood Damage Recovery Efforts


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is putting all efforts into recovery, focusing on areas damaged by the heavy rain, with Seoul City, autonomous districts, military and police forces, and volunteers working together and sweating through the restoration work.


Currently, the district is conducting emergency recovery by mobilizing all personnel and equipment targeting the damaged areas and facilities. As of the 12th, cumulative personnel support includes about 740 Seoul City and district office employees, about 1,800 military personnel, about 1,300 civilian volunteers, and about 600 police officers.


In particular, other autonomous districts are quickly providing support for the collection of flood debris in the heavily damaged Sinsa and Jowon-dong areas.


On the 11th alone, the amount of flood debris collected in Gwanak-gu reached 755 tons, and to assist, Dobong-gu supported with two flood debris collection vehicles.


On the 12th, four additional districts joined in. Gangbuk-gu provided 10 environmental officers and 5 collection vehicles, Eunpyeong-gu supported with 1 arm roll truck and 2 collection vehicles, Seongbuk-gu with 1 arm roll truck and 1 collection vehicle, and Jongno-gu with 1 collection vehicle, all working together on the task.


Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Thanks to all those who help during this difficult time, including Seoul City and district employees, military personnel, police, and volunteers, we are gaining great strength,” adding, “We will do our utmost to restore normalcy as soon as possible, including recommending the declaration of a special disaster area to provide more practical assistance to residents.”


The district plans to operate flood damage reception desks at each community service center during this holiday period, fully deploying community center staff and district office employees to continue tasks such as flood damage reception, resident guidance, flood recovery, and safety patrols.



Gwanak-gu, Dongjak-gu, Guro-gu, and Others Sweat Hard on Flood Damage Recovery Efforts Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak District, is visiting Namseong Four Seasons Market to assess the damage situation and listen to the opinions of the merchants.


Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 12th that it is making every effort to support the recovery of flood damage to traditional markets and shopping districts following the record heavy rain on the 8th.


The district is providing support such as ▲pumping equipment for flooded stores ▲repair of damaged pavement blocks ▲intensive disinfection to prevent infectious diseases ▲volunteer support, with about 300 people from the public, private, and military sectors helping to clean up store waste and assist with store cleaning.


Mayor Park Il-ha visited Namseong Sage Market to inspect the damage and listen to merchants’ opinions, instructing the prompt collection of the large amount of flood waste generated during the recovery process.


Electrical safety inspections were conducted at Namseong Sage Market and Seongdae Market, where flood damage was concentrated. The district is supporting the Clean Mobile Unit and waste collection agencies to collect flood waste.


Additionally, the district plans to provide emergency recovery funds of 2 million KRW per store to small business owners affected by wind and flood damage.


Mayor Park Il-ha emphasized, “We will do our best to minimize flood damage to traditional markets and ensure rapid recovery by mobilizing all means,” and added, “We will spare no support to help traditional market merchants return to their livelihoods stably as soon as possible,” stating, “From today (the 12th), we will investigate flood damage sites and promptly provide disaster relief funds.”

Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) is mobilizing all administrative power to recover from damage caused by the heavy rain.


On the morning of the 9th, Mayor Moon Heon-il urgently convened district office executives for a countermeasure meeting to assess the damage status. Immediately after the meeting, he visited flood sites such as the Gaemyeonggyo area and Guro Market to comfort flood victims and direct on-site recovery. District office employees, military personnel, and volunteers were deployed to various damage sites.


First, on the 9th, the district began distributing about 1,000 disaster relief supplies containing blankets, towels, and mats, as well as bottled water, ramen, and snacks to nine temporary shelters set up in the area, including Gaebong Elementary School, Guro Middle School, and Guro Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. Gift packages containing ramen and daily necessities, as well as mats and tents, will also be provided.


From the 10th, hundreds of soldiers from the 213th Infantry Brigade of the 52nd Army Division were deployed. On the 10th, 160 soldiers worked in Gaebong-dong, Oryu-dong, and Sugung-dong, and on the 11th, about 160 soldiers worked in Guro-dong, Gaebong-dong, and Oryu-dong, helping with soil removal, furniture and household item organization, and waste disposal in flooded areas by neighborhood.


On the same day, residents and organizations such as volunteers, the Volunteer Cooperation Group, and the Volunteer Center rolled up their sleeves to assist flood recovery in Gaebong 3-dong, which suffered severe damage from landslides. On the 11th, Akiva Tor, the Israeli Ambassador to Korea, and 25 embassy staff visited five households affected by flooding to help with cleaning. The district is accepting applications from residents and groups wishing to participate in flood damage recovery support through the 1365 Volunteer Portal.


Mayor Moon has been patrolling pump stations, elementary schools, apartments near landslides, rivers, and roads since the heavy rain began on the 8th, expressing gratitude to frontline workers supporting recovery and monitoring the restoration status.


A Guro-gu official said, “We will do our best to quickly restore flood damage by reflecting residents’ voices on the ground,” adding, “We will continue to inspect damaged areas by mobilizing all administrative power and maintain the heavy rain response system.”
