Catch Two Birds with One Stone: Attracting Tourism and Population Inflow with 'Gangjin Stay OSO'
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do is making every effort to expand tourism infrastructure to attract 5 million tourists annually, one of the core goals of the 8th local government administration.
As part of the Gangjin-eup Urban Regeneration New Deal project, the ‘Gangjin Stay OSO’ tourist accommodation facility is being developed in the Dongseong-ri area, and final construction work is underway ahead of its scheduled opening in October.
‘Gangjin Stay OSO’ is planned to operate not just as a simple lodging facility but as a platform for stay-type tourism and attracting relational populations to revitalize the region.
For travelers’ convenience, a 'concierge' service that handles everything according to customer needs will be introduced, and various travel products such as gourmet tours and night tours for small individual travelers will be linked to activate the local commercial district.
In particular, it will be utilized as a platform to attract relational populations by engaging with the region in various ways, such as workation combining ‘work’ and ‘vacation,’ which has rapidly emerged as a new lifestyle in the COVID-19 era, and as an artist residency space combining ‘art’ and ‘tourism.’
Breaking away from the existing population attraction policies aimed solely at permanent settlement, the strategy is to catch two rabbits?‘tourism revitalization’ and ‘population increase’?through operating new types of tourism programs that build relationships with the region.
To this end, ‘Gangjin Stay OSO’ is equipped with guest rooms necessary for lodging, a shared office for workation, and a traveler lounge facility for traveler convenience.
Meanwhile, Kang Jin-won, the mayor of Gangjin-gun, visited the construction site on the 8th to check the progress and urged, “Please do your best in preparing for the opening, including expert consultation and promotion, so that it can become a platform to attract 50,000 residents and 5 million tourists, the core goals of the new Gangjin era.”
