[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee is conducting a pilot operation of the ‘Busan Companion Dog Patrol’ and is recruiting participants until the 30th.
The Companion Dog Patrol is a customized public safety policy involving citizens who engage in local crime prevention activities while walking with their companion dogs.
The committee will pilot the patrol in Nam-gu and Suyeong-gu from September 17 to November 30 and is recruiting 30 participants who are dog owners residing in Nam-gu and Suyeong-gu until August 30.
Applications can be made on the Companion Dog Patrol website.
The committee aims to expand the ‘watchful eyes on the streets’ in residents’ daily lives through the patrol operation to prevent potential crime factors, and plans to lead the establishment of a proper dog-walking culture by encouraging voluntary participation in patrol activities with companion dogs.
The patrol freely conducts routine walking activities with companion dogs while inspecting potential hazards throughout the residential areas. If crime risks are discovered or an emergency situation occurs, they report to 112 to prompt immediate response, or if they find facility damage or inconveniences in daily life, they report to the Busan City Call Center.
The Busan Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee shares measures taken or suggestions during patrol activities to reflect them in local public safety policies, and after the pilot project ends, plans to analyze its effectiveness and expand the patrol throughout Busan.
Jung Yong-hwan, Chairman of the Busan Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee, said, “Through a successful pilot operation, we will lay the foundation for forming a community safety culture where local residents actively participate in crime prevention.”
