[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Lee Hak-su, mayor of Jeongeup City, ordered to do his best to ensure the safety of citizens by conducting an emergency inspection of disaster-prone areas in preparation for the forecasted heavy rain from the 11th to the 12th.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, the stationary front that brought heavy rain to the Seoul metropolitan area is moving southward, and up to 250mm of heavy rain is expected in the Chungcheong and Jeonbuk regions by the 12th.
Accordingly, Mayor Lee conducted an emergency inspection of heavy rain vulnerable areas such as Jeongeupcheon Stream and Bujeon Reservoir in Bujeon-dong on the same day.
At the site, Mayor Lee said, “Recently, unpredictable heavy rain caused by abnormal climate is occurring more frequently. Focus on inspecting disaster-prone facilities in advance and carefully check whether safety facilities are installed to prevent any damage.”
He also urged the heads of eup, myeon, and dong to closely monitor habitual flood zones and heavy rain vulnerable areas within their regions.
Mayor Lee requested related departments to “continuously monitor low-lying areas, steep slopes, and areas at risk of damage, and thoroughly manage drainage pump stations and underground passages.”
The city is fully prepared to operate the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on a 24-hour emergency duty system as soon as the heavy rain advisory is issued.
Once the heavy rain advisory is issued, city hall and eup, myeon, dong officials will begin emergency duty to assess damage and take emergency measures.
The city formed an inspection team with related officials the day before to check disaster-prone areas such as low-lying zones and disaster prevention facilities, and plans to continuously strengthen damage prevention activities focusing on disaster-prone areas such as retaining walls and embankments.
