[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] On the 10th (Korean time), Samsung Electronics held the 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022' event online and unveiled the 'Galaxy Watch5' series for integrated health management.

The new Galaxy Watch5 series includes the addition of the 'Pro' lineup, which enhances outdoor usability. The Galaxy Watch5 features a signature round design with sapphire crystal, while the Galaxy Watch5 Pro offers a titanium body and improved GPS performance, optimized for various outdoor sports.

The Galaxy Watch5 series is equipped with the next-level 'Samsung BioActive Sensor,' providing more powerful integrated health management functions, including body composition and heart rate measurement, as well as blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. Notably, the series is the first to incorporate a temperature sensor, opening possibilities for new services utilizing this feature.

The Galaxy Watch5 series offers a comprehensive health management experience that goes beyond simply recording exercise history by monitoring rest and recovery after workouts. The body composition measurement function helps users gain a deeper understanding of their health status and continuously motivates exercise through detailed goal setting based on body composition indicators.

After exercise, it automatically measures heart rate and suggests recommended water intake. The sleep management function has also been enhanced to promote healthy sleep habits. It analyzes sleep quality in four stages based on sleep depth and provides detailed information on the user's sleep status by measuring snoring and oxygen saturation during sleep. Additionally, it offers an optimized sleep coaching program by analyzing the user's sleep patterns.

When using SmartThings, if the user is detected to be asleep, connected devices such as lights, air conditioners, and TVs can be automatically adjusted to pre-set settings to create an optimal sleep environment.

Sapphire Crystal Display Equipped

The Galaxy Watch5 series is the first Galaxy Watch product to feature a sapphire crystal display. The sapphire crystal is about 60% harder than the previous generation, enhancing not only the smartwatch's design but also its durability.

The battery capacity has increased by 13% compared to the previous model. Samsung explains that even from a discharged state, a 30-minute charge can provide an additional 45% battery life, allowing for quick charging and extended outdoor activities.

The Galaxy Watch5 series runs on 'Wear OS' based 'One UI Watch 4.5,' enabling access to more Google mobile services and Android applications (apps). For example, users can play Spotify using only voice commands via Google Assistant and stream desired music through YouTube Music.

Enhanced Usability for Outdoor Sports

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro offers stronger features and durability, increasing its usability in outdoor sports such as hiking and cycling. It protects the display with a more reinforced sapphire crystal and a titanium frame compared to the Galaxy Watch5. Additionally, it comes standard with a D-buckle sports band, enhancing product durability while providing a stylish look. Users can comfortably wear it adjusted to their preferred size.

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro expands usability with GPS-based features. Users can pre-set tracking routes through the 'Route Workout' function in the Samsung Health app and exercise based on these routes. They can also create, save, and share their workout records as GPX files. With the trackback feature, hikers can record the paths they have taken to easily find their way back. It has the largest battery capacity among the Galaxy Watch series, allowing worry-free use during long outdoor activities.

Pre-orders from the 16th... Release on August 26

The Galaxy Watch5 series is scheduled for sequential global release starting on the 26th. Samsung.com is recruiting the 'Watch5 Fun Run' pre-experience group, which allows users in Korea to experience the product the fastest after the unpacked event, until the 12th. During the seven-day pre-order period from the 16th to the 22nd, promotions offering covers and straps depending on the purchased model will be available.

The Galaxy Watch5 will be released in LTE and Bluetooth models. Sizes are 44mm and 40mm. The 44mm model comes in Graphite, Silver, and Sapphire colors, while the 40mm model is available in Graphite, Pink Gold, and Silver (with Purple Sports Band) in new colors. Prices are 329,000 KRW for the 44mm Bluetooth model and 299,000 KRW for the 40mm Bluetooth model. LTE models are priced at 363,000 KRW for the 44mm and 330,000 KRW for the 40mm.

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro will be available in two colors, Black Titanium and Gray Titanium, in a single 45mm size. The LTE model is priced at 528,000 KRW, and the Bluetooth model at 499,000 KRW.

The Galaxy Watch5 Golf Edition will be released in Graphite and includes the Smart Caddie app, a dedicated watch face, and a dedicated two-tone sports strap. It supports golfers with remaining distance to the green, scorecard, and shot tracking features. Prices are 412,500 KRW for the 44mm LTE model, 379,000 KRW for the Bluetooth model, 379,500 KRW for the 40mm LTE model, and 349,000 KRW for the Bluetooth model.

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro Golf Edition will be released in Black Titanium, priced at 577,500 KRW for the LTE model and 549,000 KRW for the Bluetooth model.
