[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is reportedly discussing a proposal to move the opening day of the 2022 Qatar World Cup forward by one day, according to foreign media reports.
According to foreign media such as the AP News Agency, the proposal to change the opening day from November 21 to November 20 is being discussed.
According to the original plan, the opening match of the Qatar World Cup is scheduled for 1 PM local time on November 21, featuring the Netherlands vs. Senegal. The match between the host country Qatar and Ecuador, both in Group A, is set to take place six hours later at 7 PM.
The proposed adjustment would move the Qatar vs. Ecuador match forward to the 20th, one day earlier. This change would extend the tournament duration from 28 days to 29 days.
FIFA has reportedly declined to provide an official response regarding the adjustment of the opening day.
The Qatar World Cup, the first to be held in the Middle East, was rescheduled to November considering Qatar's June temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
