[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] President Yoon Suk-yeol approved the appointment of Yoon Hee-geun as Commissioner General of the National Police Agency on the 10th. After approving the appointment, President Yoon presented the letter of appointment at the Yongsan office.

Although the Police Commissioner General must undergo a confirmation hearing, the president can appoint the official without the consent of the National Assembly. Earlier, the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee held a confirmation hearing for Commissioner Yoon on the 8th, but the adoption of the confirmation hearing report failed due to opposition from the Democratic Party of Korea. The Democratic Party opposed the appointment, citing reasons such as Commissioner Yoon's failure to clearly state his position on the establishment of the Police Bureau.

With President Yoon's decision to appoint Commissioner Yoon without a confirmation report, the number of high-ranking officials appointed without confirmation reports under the new administration has increased to 11. They include Foreign Minister Park Jin, Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Bo-gyun, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Gender Equality and Family Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Education Park Soon-ae, Commissioner General of the National Tax Service Kim Chang-gi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Seung-gyeom, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission Kim Ju-hyun, with Commissioner Yoon being the 11th.
