Why the President 'Went Home' During a Crisis Was Criticized, but the Reason for 'Not Coming Out' from Home Was Explained
"It's Like Complaining There Are No Seoul Votes When Asked to Change to Busan Votes"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Choi Jae-sung criticized the presidential office on the 10th for "giving irrelevant answers" after it explained that "presidential protocol could reduce on-site response capabilities."
Former Senior Secretary Choi said on Facebook that day, "I pointed out why the president went home during the crisis and why he was left unattended without any separate measures after going home, but they answered 'why he could not come out of the house,'" adding this was an irrelevant response.
He continued, "It is a complete non sequitur," and criticized, "It’s like demanding to change a train ticket to Busan and being told there are no tickets to Seoul."
Former Senior Secretary Choi said, "I am curious how they will respond to a netizen’s comment asking why they built an office at a cost of hundreds of billions if the president only gives work instructions by phone from home," and pointed out, "The essence of this incident is the negligence of the security office, which did not consider the president’s safety during the expected heavy rain crisis, and the incompetence of the presidential office, which did not consider the gaps in disaster command and security emergency."
He emphasized, "They made the president, who is the top of the control tower, a victim of the disaster and then talked about protocol and reporting," adding, "Someone must be held accountable."
He also criticized, "When personnel disasters repeated, they blamed past governments and Minbyun, but now that a disaster has occurred, they blame protocol and reporting," and said, "President Yoon is most at fault. Since the president himself gives irrelevant answers, others follow, thinking that is the government’s policy."
