"Young SW Talent Development" SK, Doosan and Other Large Companies Jointly Launch 'ASAC'

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Domestic conglomerates have joined forces to directly train young software (SW) talent needed in industrial sites.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and SK Planet announced on the 10th that they have launched the SW education program ‘ASAC (Allied Software Academy Of Companies)’ to directly nurture young talent.

The participating companies include Kyobo Information & Communication, Netmarble, Doosan Digital Innovation, D-camp, Alice Healthcare, SK Broadband, SK Siltron, SK Inc., SK Telecom, SK Hynix, and Coupang, totaling 11 companies. The training will be conducted at T Academy, SK Planet’s specialized training institution, while KCCI will support the training through the ‘Digital Leading Companies Academy’ project.

ASAC was initiated with the purpose of providing SW education to young job seekers who want jobs, together with companies utilizing IT talent in various fields, to directly cultivate talent needed in industrial sites. A KCCI official said, “This ASAC education program is meaningful in that companies from diverse industries such as manufacturing, distribution, gaming, IT, and startups collaborated to reflect the on-site demand in the SW field,” adding, “Since big tech companies and startup industry practitioners will provide education and mentoring during the project period, it will be possible to cultivate core SW personnel who can be immediately deployed to actual corporate sites after completing the training.”

The first batch of trainees will be recruited until the 26th. A total of 50 trainees will be selected, with 25 per course. The training period will run for about six months from September 28 to March 18 of next year. The training location is the T Academy training center in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

The education consists of two courses: AI-based Big Data Analyst and Web Full Stack Developer. Participants in the AI-based Big Data Analyst course will receive practical data project training based on data collection and analysis, machine learning, and deep learning. Participants in the Web Full Stack Developer course will undertake practical web production project training based on learning web frontend and backend development.

The curriculum was selected after participating companies held several meetings over four months to gather opinions on the most demanded and commonly required SW fields in corporate sites. Specifically, the program focuses on practical projects conducted with participating companies and big tech firms, and plans to provide project-based on-site education through close mentoring by experts.

During the training period, trainees will receive training to solve problems encountered in the field through mini projects and company-linked projects, and will also participate in expert lectures and seminars. All courses are operated as part of the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s K-Digital Training ‘Digital Leading Companies Academy Training Course.’ A T Academy official said, “We will do our best to conduct education centered on practical corporate projects so that those who complete the training can adapt immediately to work after employment.”

Eligibility requirements include ▲job seekers aged 34 or younger who can find employment within six months after completing the course ▲graduates or expected graduates of a regular four-year university ▲holders or eligible applicants of the National Tomorrow Learning Card who can take K-Digital Training courses for free.

Selected trainees will receive benefits such as ▲full tuition coverage (17 million KRW) ▲mentoring by industry experts ▲preferential hiring by partner companies after completion ▲employment consulting and other job support ▲monthly training allowance and a new start support fund upon completion.

Detailed information about the ASAC education program recruitment can be found on the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Digital Leading Companies Academy website or the SK Planet T Academy website.

Kang Seok-gu, head of the KCCI Research Headquarters, said, “While one in five young people is unemployed, there is a serious manpower mismatch in new industries such as IT,” adding, “From the students’ perspective, this program allows them to apply the theories learned at school to the field, and from the companies’ perspective, it enables them to directly train the talent they need and deploy them appropriately, creating a significant win-win effect.”
