[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education will hold a public policy forum to discuss the operation method of the achievement evaluation system for the high school credit system, which will be fully implemented in 2025.
The Ministry of Education, metropolitan and provincial offices of education, and the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation announced on the 10th that they will hold the "2022 1st High School Credit System Policy Forum" at the Seoul Central Post Office on the 11th. It will be broadcast live online for general teachers and parents.
From 2025, the high school credit system will be fully implemented, and students will be able to earn credits only by meeting attendance rates and academic achievement rates for each subject. Instead of relative evaluation based on ranking, the achievement evaluation system, which assesses the extent to which individual students meet subject-specific achievement standards, will be expanded to all elective subjects.
At the forum, Professor Hong Won-pyo of Yonsei University will propose the application plan for subject completion standards in high schools under the 2022 revised curriculum, and Teacher Park Jeong-sook of Yangjae High School will suggest ways to apply minimum achievement level guidance in the field. Researcher Lee Seung-mi of the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation will present the direction for introducing minimum achievement level guidance and support measures.
In the second part, Senior Researcher Kim Kyung-hee of the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation will propose suggestions for the stabilization of the achievement evaluation system in the high school credit system, and Teacher Park Moon-su of Cheongwon Girls' High School will present the understanding of the achievement evaluation system in high schools and implications to consider. Senior Admissions Officer Lee Seung-yeon of Seoul National University will discuss the direction of the college admission system with the theme of linking high school curricula and college entrance examinations.
Jang Hong-jae, Director of Curriculum Policy at the Ministry of Education, said, "We plan to actively reflect field opinions on improving the high school credit system through the High School Credit System Inspection Task Force (TF), teacher organization consultative bodies, regional forums, and operation of institutional improvement research groups."
