[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Due to the resurgence of COVID-19, over 140,000 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide by 9 PM on the 9th.

According to Seoul City and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, 146,364 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This figure is 3,196 higher than the previous day's count at the same time (143,168).

As of 9 PM on this day, the number of confirmed cases was 1.27 times that of a week ago on the 2nd (115,311) and 1.50 times that of two weeks ago on the 26th of last month (97,617).

Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 10th is expected to increase further, approaching 150,000.

As of 9 PM on this day, 64,088 new cases (43.8%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 82,276 new cases (56.2%) were reported in non-metropolitan areas.

By region, Gyeonggi recorded 38,019 cases, Seoul 26,069, Gyeongnam 8,888, Gyeongbuk 8,517, Incheon 7,674, Chungnam 6,809, Daegu 6,380, and Jeonbuk 6,088.

Meanwhile, the doubling phenomenon, where the number of new confirmed cases doubles every week, has eased since the end of last month, but the weekly increase rate compared to a week ago has slightly risen in the past week. The weekly COVID-19 risk level in non-metropolitan areas, where the medical burden relative to severe patients is relatively high, was raised to "High" for the first time in 15 weeks.
