[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) was raided by the police in connection with the fact that it contracted a staff dormitory next door to the then Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's residence two years ago.

According to the police, the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency conducted a search and seizure at GH headquarters in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province, and the Pangyo project team on the 9th. This additional search and seizure, conducted about 40 days after the first one on June 30, was reportedly carried out to supplement the previous search.

The police plan to investigate the circumstances in which Mr. Bae, a key figure in the corporate card suspicion, leased the house next to Assemblyman Lee's residence as a jeonse (long-term lease) property. It is known that Mr. Bae listed one apartment of 200.66㎡ (61 pyeong) in Sunae-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, owned by an octogenarian Mr. A, as a jeonse property through a real estate agency on behalf of Mr. A.

The police have determined that GH's acquisition of a new dormitory despite having an existing dormitory contract caused damage to the company, and have booked related employees on charges of breach of trust.

Furthermore, the investigation is ongoing regarding allegations that this dormitory was used as an unofficial campaign office during Assemblyman Lee's presidential election campaign.
