Verbal Agreement on Hourly Wage Increase with Service Contractor
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Security and cleaning workers at Yonsei University, who have been holding on-campus rallies demanding wage increases, have reached a verbal agreement on treatment improvements with the outsourcing company. Accordingly, the union plans not to hold additional rallies until a final agreement is reached.
Kim Hyunok, head of the Yonsei University branch of the Seoul branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Public Transport Workers' Union, stated to a media outlet on the 9th, "We recently completed a verbal agreement with the outsourcing company. We plan to finalize the agreement in the fourth week of this month."
The outsourcing company is reported to have accepted most of the union's demands, including hourly wage increases, installation of shower facilities, and workforce expansion.
If the final agreement is reached as per the verbal agreement, the hourly wage for cleaning workers will increase by 400 won to 9,790 won, and the hourly wage for security workers will increase by 440 won to 9,190 won.
