KEPCO Reports 38 Power Outages Nationwide Due to Heavy Rain... 12,900 Households Affected

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Due to the record-breaking heavy rain that fell in the central region, a total of 38 power outages occurred nationwide over two days from the 8th, and approximately 12,000 households suffered damage.

According to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) on the 9th, as of 1 PM that day, a total of 38 power outages caused by the heavy rain since the previous day were recorded, affecting a total of 12,907 households. Among them, power has been restored to 11,821 households (91.6%).

However, power restoration is still delayed for the remaining 1,086 households due to landslides, river flooding, and road closures.

By region, the southern part of Seoul experienced 10 power outages affecting 5,376 households, and Incheon (3 cases) had 113 households without power. Currently, power supply has been restored to all of these areas.

In northern Gyeonggi Province (11 cases), 5,053 households experienced power outages, with power restored to 4,374 of them. In southern Gyeonggi Province (15 cases), power has been restored to 1,958 out of 2,365 affected households.

KEPCO estimates that equipment damage amounts to approximately 119 million KRW, including 18 utility poles and 4 spans of power lines (power lines between poles).

KEPCO announced that it has issued a blue emergency alert to eight headquarters including Seoul, South Seoul, Incheon, the metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and Gangwon regions, and 408 personnel have been deployed for emergency duty. Emergency alerts are divided into three levels: red, blue, and white.

KEPCO stated, "We are maintaining a power outage response and restoration system, including holding a situation check meeting for the central region to respond to worsening weather conditions, chaired by President Jeong Seung-il."
