[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] Seo Byeong-su, a member of the People Power Party and chairman of the National Committee, emphasized 'seongong husa' (prioritize public interest before personal matters) toward party leader Lee Jun-seok. He requested restraint regarding Lee's announcement of legal actions such as filing for a provisional injunction against the transition to an emergency response committee system.
After the National Committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 9th, Seo told reporters, "I would like to ask once again here that since Leader Lee is also a politician and for the sake of his future political career, I hope he refrains from legal actions such as filing for a provisional injunction and adopts an attitude of prioritizing the party's interests before his own. I would appreciate that."
Regarding the remarks that "Leader Lee and Supreme Council member Kim Yong-tae are preparing legal actions such as filing for a provisional injunction," Seo explained, "I have mentioned several times that such concerns exist. We are paying close attention to ensure that the procedures for the Standing National Committee and the National Committee are free from any loopholes according to the party constitution and regulations."
He also indicated the possibility that the Standing National Committee for appointing emergency response committee members could be held as early as that day if an emergency response committee chairman is elected. Seo said, "Once the emergency response committee chairman is decided, the chairman and the floor leader will likely consult. As soon as the emergency response committee members are decided and submitted to the Standing National Committee, a decision can be made as quickly as possible, either today or tomorrow."
When asked about recommendations for the emergency response committee chairman, Seo said, "There are no regulations in the party constitution or rules regarding who recommends. However, based on past precedents, the leadership recommends and gathers opinions from the party caucus or other party members before making a recommendation. Since we are the ruling party and the administration has just begun, I think communication with the Presidential Secretariat is also necessary."
