[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) has finalized and unveiled the BI (Brand Identity) visualizing the 8th term local government goal, "Vigorous Change, Proud Gangdong."
The newly revealed BI symbolizes the "vigorous change of Gangdong-gu in the 8th term" with a rising red sun, expressing a dynamic and lively Gangdong, and embodies the meaning that "Proud Gangdong" brings smiles to residents through a smile emoticon, raising expectations for the newly transforming Gangdong-gu.
The district has selected four major guidelines for local government operation to lead the vigorous change of the new Gangdong in the 8th term, reflecting the will to create a "livable and proud Gangdong" through local government innovation and resident communication: ▲Fairness and Innovation ▲Responsibility and Integrity ▲Communication and Integration ▲Autonomy and Creativity. Through this, it plans to carry out local government policies that "renew Gangdong and excite residents."
Additionally, various designs applying this BI will be developed and used for various local government promotions, widely sharing the vision of Gangdong in the 8th term with residents through diverse channels. The BI for the 8th term local government goal can be viewed and downloaded by searching "local government brand slogan" on the Gangdong-gu website.

The district-run Wonhyo Lumini Daycare Center (15 Wonhyo-ro 97-gil) is located on the first floor of the young adult housing near Wonhyo-ro 1-ga Station, with a total floor area of 244㎡. It includes four childcare rooms, a playroom, kitchen, teachers' room, and multipurpose room. The childcare target is ages 0 to 2, with a capacity of 32 infants.
The district created the daycare center by investing 160 million KRW in the space provided free of charge within the Yongsan Wonhyo Lumini apartment complex by the developer Lotte Construction. The daycare is operated by the Korea Methodist Church Hangang Central Church (Representative Choi Chang-gyu), selected through a public recruitment of consignment bodies in March.
Yongsan Wonhyo Lumini is a prime young adult housing complex located within an 800m radius of four subway stations (Samgakji, Hyochang Park Station, Sookdae Entrance, Namyeong Station). It consists of 752 units from basement level 6 to 29 floors above ground and 20 neighborhood living facilities on floors 1 and 2. The main tenant age group is young adults in their 20s and 30s.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "The daycare center is being established to meet the increased childcare demand following the occupancy of young adult housing in Wonhyo-ro 1-ga," adding, "We will make every effort to create a childcare foundation so that young adults can settle in Yongsan with peace of mind."
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Sung-heon) will hold a plaque unveiling ceremony for the UNICEF Child-Friendly City advanced certification at 4 p.m. on the 10th at the first-floor entrance of the district office building.
A Child-Friendly City refers to a city that has faithfully implemented the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to create a city where all children under 18 can live well.
Last month on the 15th, the district received advanced certification as a Child-Friendly City from the UNICEF Korea Committee, recognizing achievements over the past four years. The certification period is four years.
The committee certifies cities at an advanced level that have implemented a more developed child-friendly environment through evaluation of nine elements, including the establishment of a dedicated child rights organization and the establishment of a child participation system.
The district received balanced evaluations in each element and was certified without additional review stages.
In particular, it received high marks for ▲operating a working promotion team composed of heads of child-related departments ▲continuous increase in child-friendly budget ▲operating a child rights advocate (ombudsperson) to prevent and protect against child rights violations.
Seodaemun-gu has established a four-year plan including an annual roadmap with the vision of "A child-friendly Seodaemun where children are safe and respected," aiming to create an advanced child-friendly city worthy of this advanced certification.
This includes 36 key projects and 219 detailed projects under four major goals: ▲a city where children are safe and healthy ▲a city supporting children's participation and growth ▲a city where all children enjoy together ▲a child-friendly city created with the local community.
These projects reflect children's perspectives through child-friendly city surveys and citizen roundtable discussions.
Lee Sung-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "Since the child-friendly projects are implemented at the children's eye level, the certification plaque will also be installed at the district office entrance at the children's eye level," adding, "We will do our best so that all children can be respected as subjects of life and be happy in a safe environment."
