Landslide Buries Earth Vehicle
Missing Person Reported
A landslide occurred on a road in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 9th due to heavy rain, resulting in partial lane closures and recovery work. [Image source=Yonhap News]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] Due to heavy rain that fell in the central region starting on the 8th, there were casualties including 2 deaths and 2 missing persons in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.
According to Gyeonggi Province and the police on the 9th, at around 1:01 a.m. that day, a landslide occurred near Jikdong IC on the Jikdong-Seongnam Janghowon expressway in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, in the direction of Seongnam, causing soil to pour down and cover a Rexton vehicle passing nearby.
Rescue teams were dispatched, but the driver, Mr. A (30, male), died, and two others in the vehicle were injured and transported to a hospital.
Earlier, at around 11:40 p.m. the previous day, a citizen passing through Mokhyeoncheon in Mokhyeon-dong, Gwangju, reportedly called to report, "It seems a person was swept away by the water."
After receiving the report and searching the area, the police found a woman in her 30s collapsed and dead in front of an apartment nearby at around 12:15 a.m. that day.
The police estimate that the woman drowned after being swept away by the rapid current and are investigating her identity and the cause of death.
A case of missing siblings was also reported. At around 12:43 a.m. that day, Ms. B (77, female), a resident of Mokhyeon-dong, went outside to check for flooding in the nearby stream but did not return. Her younger brother, Mr. C (58), went out after her and both went missing.
The police have received a missing persons report from their family and are searching the area.
