Administrative and public institutions after 11 AM... Private companies and organizations may request flexible adjustments
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has requested all levels of administrative agencies to adjust their commuting hours on the 9th, following consultations with related organizations such as the Ministry of Personnel Management and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, due to concerns over severe traffic congestion during rush hour caused by the concentrated heavy rain in the Seoul metropolitan area starting from the 8th.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the heavy rain concentrated in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province caused severe flooding damage to public transportation infrastructure, including subway stations. Earlier, President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed administrative and public institutions to actively implement commuting time adjustments according to the situation, and urged private institutions and organizations to actively encourage commuting time adjustments.
Accordingly, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety requested administrative agencies, public institutions, affiliated organizations, and groups located in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province to adjust commuting hours to after 11 a.m., while advising related private companies and organizations at all levels to flexibly adjust commuting hours according to the situation.
Lee Sang-min, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, said, “We ask private companies to actively consider adjusting commuting hours to prevent additional damage caused by the heavy rain, and we urge citizens to confirm with their affiliated institutions whether commuting time adjustments have been made before heading to work.”
