[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ‘Wyndham Champ’ Kim Joo-hyung (20) has jumped to 21st in the world rankings.
In the weekly men's golf world rankings announced on the 8th (local time), he rose 13 spots from 34th last week. Kim Joo-hyung earned points by winning the final regular season event of the 2021/2022 PGA Tour, the Wyndham Championship (total prize money $7.3 million), held at Sedgefield Golf Club (par 70) in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, with a 5-stroke victory (20-under 260). He is the first Korean ‘special temporary member’ and the youngest winner.
Kim Joo-hyung started this year ranked 131st in the world but jumped to 89th after winning the Asian (APGA) Tour Singapore International, entering the top 100. Last month, he rose into the ‘elite group’ within the top 50 by finishing 3rd at the Genesis Scottish Open, co-hosted by the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) and PGA Tour. Last week, he also rose into the top 30 in the world rankings by finishing 7th at the PGA Tour Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Scottie Scheffler (USA), Cameron Smith (Australia), Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Patrick Cantlay, and Xander Schauffele (both USA) maintained their positions from 1st to 5th. Jon Rahm (Spain) dropped one spot to 6th. Justin Thomas is 7th, Collin Morikawa (both USA) 8th, and Viktor Hovland (Norway) 9th. Korea’s Im Sung-jae (24), runner-up at the Wyndham Championship, jumped one spot to 20th. Lee Kyung-hoon (31) is 45th, and Kim Si-woo (27) is ranked 62nd.
