CJ Presents Group ESG Management Direction, Publishes First ESG Report

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ announced on the 8th that it has published the '2021 ESG Report,' which contains various sustainable management activities and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management performance. This is the first time CJ Corporation has published a group-level ESG activity report, focusing on presenting the group's commitment and direction toward ESG management as a holding company.

CJ, through the ESG Committee under the Board of Directors, selected the '8 Core ESG Areas' by considering stakeholder interest and business impact: ▲Development of eco-friendly products, content, and services ▲Securing future growth engines and portfolio diversification ▲Responding to climate change ▲Respecting and protecting human rights ▲Internalizing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive (DE&I) organizational culture ▲Practicing a circular economy ▲Strengthening transparent management and expanding compliance and ethical management ▲Establishing a sustainable supply chain. The report includes ESG activities and achievements according to these areas.

Additionally, to evaluate ESG management performance based on various data perspectives, CJ set diverse indicators corresponding to the 8 core areas and quantified management activity results, disclosing an 'ESG Fact Sheet' through the report.

CJ has established ESG committees under the boards of all eight listed companies and also operates an ESG Advisory Committee that deliberates and advises on overall group ESG policies, thereby expanding ESG management. In last year's ESG evaluation by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS), six listed companies received an A grade.

A CJ official stated, “As this is the first report, we focused on presenting the group's sustainable management efforts, such as the establishment of the ESG Committee, as well as future goals, roadmaps, and strategic tasks. We will annually share the ESG management system advancement process, which supervises business opportunities and risks, along with management plans and performance by key indicators, with various stakeholders.”
