Lee Hojun Appointed as Executive Vice Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries Lee Ho-jun, Executive Vice Chairman

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Lee Ho-jun, former Director General of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has been appointed as the full-time Vice Chairman of the Korea Federation of Medium-sized Enterprises (Korea Federation). His term is three years, until July 2025.


The Korea Federation announced on the 8th that at the 3rd board meeting in 2022, the election of Lee Ho-jun as full-time Vice Chairman was approved. Lee is a policy expert in industry, trade, investment, and energy who has worked for 30 years across economic and industrial ministries as well as the Presidential Secretariat. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Economics in 1990 and earned a master's degree in Policy Studies from the same university's Graduate School of Public Administration in 1992. In 2010, he obtained a Ph.D. in Technology Policy from the University of Manchester in the UK.


Lee passed the 34th Administrative Examination in 1990 and entered public service. He subsequently served as head of the Gumi Cooperation Team at the Ministry of Industry and Resources, director of the Regional Industry Division, director of the Electric Power Industry Division, director of the Energy Resources Policy Division, and secretary to the minister at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. From 2014 to 2017, he served as Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the People's Republic of China under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After returning in 2017, he held key positions including Director General of Trade Cooperation, Director of Investment Policy, Director of Policy Planning, and Director General of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. From March 2021, he worked as the Industrial Policy Secretary at the Presidential Secretariat before retiring in July after 30 years of public service.


Lee stated, "Medium-sized enterprises are the reliable pillars leading industrial and technological innovation and are at the center of overcoming internal and external challenges and crises such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, prolonged COVID-19, and global supply chain instability." He emphasized, "We will actively expand communication with stakeholders across the National Assembly, government, and various sectors to support the transition of the 'Special Act on Medium-sized Enterprises,' the legal foundation for fostering medium-sized enterprises, into a permanent law, as well as to improve a stable legal and institutional environment that supports the resolution of urgent issues faced by medium-sized enterprises composed of diverse industries and their sustainable growth."
